The 1st Battalion,
25th Marines Association
Scholarship

The Scholarship Program awards are a living memorial to the Marines and Sailors who have honorably served in 1st Battalion, 25th Marines. The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to recognize the achievement and encourage members, spouses, children (natural or adopted), grandchildren, stepchildren and widow(er)s of members who serve or served in 1st Battalion, 25th Marines to continue their pursuit  of higher education.

The Scholarship Committee rates each application sent to them without knowing the names of the applicants. All Committee Members pass their decisions to the Scholarship Director who then works with the Chairman to decide the number of scholarships and amounts to be awarded. This varies from year to year by the amounts donated by members.

The 2024 scholarship is now closed. Recipients have been notified via e-mail, and will receive their award at the Annual Business Meeting in May.

    Gianna Pompeo

My father, being a Marine, raised me with the high level of standards he was held to while in the Marines. With these characteristics, I have learned to love my country and its freedoms, to have a family bigger than just my blood relatives, and to stay steadfast to who I am. The funds provided by the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association will allow me to pursue an education in English Literature and Cello Performance at the University of New Hampshire. Based on my education, my future career will be an English Editor and a Cello Teacher on the side. Thank you to the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association!
    Thank you again,
    Gianna Pompeo

I will be using this scholarship to help pay for my college tuition at Bridgewater State University. There, I am majoring in Aviation Science with a career goal of becoming an airline pilot like my dad.

My dad has been my role model ever since I was little, being the daughter of a veteran, I was taught to be tough both mentally and physically. Being a former Marine, my dad taught me self discipline and perseverance which has carried over in all aspects of my life, including aviation. I am very grateful and blessed that I am able to follow in my dads footsteps of becoming an airline pilot through his guidance, and I hope to one day serve this country like he once did.

Thank you again for this opportunity, I appreciate it more than you know.

  • Madison Hayward

    Madison Hayward

The 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association Scholarship is aiding me in my journey towards becoming a registered nurse. With these funds I can continue to further my education at Salve Regina University, the college at which I am a nursing student. A career in nursing has always been my dream, and I believe that my inclination to choose a profession focused on helping people was instilled within me by my father. My father, both a veteran and a police officer, has made it his life’s mission to protect and serve others. The pride I have for him, as well as our country, is boundless. With this scholarship, I am one step closer towards becoming a nurse and carrying on my father’s legacy. I am forever grateful to the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association. Thank you.

  • Maddie Parrish

    Maddie Parrish

I am so thankful to the 25th Marines Association for awarding me this scholarship! In the fall I will be attending Emmanuel College, playing softball there and majoring in nursing. I plan to use the money from this scholarship in order to help me pay for school and to start my nursing career.

Being the child of a veteran, my dad, SGT. Richard Scott Parrish, has taught me how to work hard and shown me just how precious this life is. My dad has instilled in me the values of leadership and hard work, and I have applied these values on the softball field and in the classroom. I have achieved my goals to play college softball and to get into the nursing program at Emmanuel College. The values of the Marine Corps, and the 1/25’s shaped my dad, and in turn me. I wouldn’t have achieved my goals and be heading to Emmanuel without my dad.

My name is Michael Collins and I am currently serving in 1st Battalion 25th Marines. I am also in the process of earning my Master of Business Administration degree at Boston College's Carroll School of Management. The 1/25 Association Scholarship will help me offset some of the educational expenses that are not covered by the GI Bill. Earning my MBA will help me to advance my career as a financial regulator or move into the private sector. Serving in the military was always a goal of mine, and I believe that it has been a positive experience. I have had many great experiences and feel stronger as a person. I am very appreciative for the 1/25 Association's help in pursuing my academic and professional goals!

  • Miranda Sylvia

    2022 Recipient

I want to thank you, the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association, and my father for this opportunity for this scholarship award. My father shows great pride in his past service in the Marines which has taught me to do the same in my life. He’s instilled in me to always strive to be the best at whatever I do, like with achieving my third-degree black belt and making Dean’s List at my university. For him, it has always been his devotion to his country and to being the most dedicated father anyone could ask for. He has always been my biggest motivator and I want to be as much of a hard worker as he is.

  • Adriana Pulit

    2022 Recipient

Growing up, my parents always taught me the value of history and remembering those that came before us, especially those that fought for our freedom. They would take me to museums and my father would tell me stories of his time in the Marines. Today, I am grateful to be able to use this towards my studies for my Master of Library and Information Science Degree at the University of Denver. I plan to continue my studies to pursue a career in Archives and Metadata Librarianship. With this degree, I will be preserving the stories and events of our past so the people that came before us can live in perpetuity and make this information accessible to everyone. Thank you again 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association.

  • Michael Macek

    2022 & 2020 Recipient

I would like to thank you for accepting and reviewing my application and ultimately awarding me this scholarship.

This scholarship assisted me in my senior year at Charter Oak State College while earning my bachelor’s degree in Public Safety Administration. Completing that degree was a requirement for attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Currently, I am serving as the Operations Lt. in my police department. I have chosen to continue my education and was recently accepted into the master’s degree program at Charter Oak State College where I will be working on my MS in Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership. Receiving the 1/25 Marines Association Scholarship has assisted in making this step a reality for me. Continuing the higher education path paired with what I have learned in the Marine Corps; will give me the tools to effectively continue to shape future leaders of our department.

The funds are definitely going toward education. I still have a lot to accomplish in school and if I want to become a therapist or, maybe, even a psychiatrist I'm going to need the money to help put me through med school.
Being the child of a veteran has impacted me and my life. I was always taught to strive for something big and to be determined and do anything to go for it. If I failed, I had to do better and try again but I couldn't give up. That wasn't an option.
