Summary of the 1st Annual "Deacon" Award:

It is with great honor and respect that we as fellow 1st Battalion 25th Marines, create an award and present it to an individual who exemplifies Espirit de Corps, tradition and honor to those who not only serve but to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, it is an honor on behalf of the 1st Bn 25th Marines Association that we present the Sgt Ross F. Gray award, now to be known as “THE DEACON”, to Marine Corps Sgt. Andrew DelRossi – Biggio.

“Biggs” as he is known by many more than just his fellow Marines, grew up in Massachusetts and joined the Marines in 2006 with Bravo Company 1/25. During his tour of duty from 2006 to 2012, Sgt Biggio deployed to Iraq with Fox Co 2/25 in 2007 and with Bravo Company 1/25 to Afghanistan in 2011.

Married to his wife Carley and expecting their first son this July, Sgt. Biggio continues to serve his community on the Winthrop Police Department.

Today Sgt Biggio is being recognized for his efforts to not leave anyone behind. As founder and President of the Boston Wounded Vets Bike Run, he has created an organization that continues to promote awareness for veterans who were injured while in service. Additionally, his organization donates to area veterans in need and to other charitable organizations that support our wounded service members who sustained injuries while serving our beloved country.

As of today, the Boston Wounded Vet Run has not only increased the awareness of our wounded veterans but has also raised and distributed nearly $1.5M to help provide and support these warriors.

Congratulations, Sgt Biggio and Semper Fidelis

- The 1st Battalion, 25th Marines Association
